Master Bedroom Makeover the Beginning

best is yet to come

As a young adult I haven't had the opportunity/funds to buy all my own stuff. Instead I have been given hand me downs (which I am very grateful for). My parents gave me their old bedroom set, one piece at a time ;) and I have always loved it but it is started to get worn out and multiple drawers now done work. I have bought my own bedding but of course they were on the cheaper end so my comforter didn't last very long.

I have decided now that life is starting to settle down, not a whole lot but after 3 major life events it sure feels settled down :), that it is time for me to decorate my husband and I's bedroom. We've been living it in for 2 years with all our mis-matched pieces and our cluttered mess.

Before Bedroom Makeover

I have to admit I am going to miss this headboard! I love mirrors, I have decided though if I am replacing the rest of the set this needs to go as well. Plus the husband hates it :) lol. My plan is to replace it with a headboard we will make that has a mirror on it as well, just a little more modern look.  I also cannot wait to get a bedskirt on this bed!

Before Bedroom makeover

The curtains on the left I got as a teenager garage saleing with my mom. I fell in Love with them and only paid $5 for them! At one point though I had a kitten climb up them and made a real mess of them, you don't really notice it unless you look closely but I know its there, and again the husband isn't a fan of them. The other curtain I still like but its just hanging there serving no decretive purpose and I would like to have something a bit more pretty.

Before Bedroom makeover

My corner of the bedroom... what a cluttered mess! I am going to need to find some ideas to organize my stuff better, I would love suggestions.

before bedroom makeover

The husband's corner, not so bad but I would love to get that TV off of the dresser and mounted onto the wall. Plus the purple wall color just doesn't match our style so I think that will be the first thing to go.

Well my daughter took a nap I moved all everything out of my corner and took down the curtains and was able to paint the first two walls!

Fudge

I chose the color Fudge by Pittsburgh paint & stain. I just love that it is so bold and yet a neutral color. I plan on decorating with golds and reds so it should pop off this brown color!

I will share more about my Bedroom makeover the more I get done! I will do my best to remember to let you know where I got everything and supply the links as we go. I appreciate any advice you have for me.

Flush your worries away

Let's talk about customizing our Toilets!

Yes, you read that correct our toilets :)

Toilet Branch

I am working on potty training my daughter, so I have been in our bathroom for what seems like the entire last two weeks. This got me thinking who says our toilets need to be blah? I mean we see them how much in one day? The vinyl expression in the picture above works perfectly on the tank of the toilet and adds the perfect touch to a toilet. One of the best things is we can get it in over 50 available colors, meaning it can work in anything kind of themed bathroom (mine happens to be rubber duckies). If your like me and have small kids at home and want you toilet to be more fun try the expression pictured below. This one comes in two colors of your choice and it is just so darn cute.

Flush toilet

Well I am on the subject of toilets I am going to have to bring up my biggest pet peeve ever. I absolutely hate it when the toilet seat gets left up! Yes I know I should look before I seat but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and have to pee at this point I am basically sleep walking. We have all had that close call where we almost fell into the darn toilet bowl. Yet no matter how much we nag and complain or even rationalize it to the men in our homes they always seem to forget. I found a solution ladies!

Put me down

I don't know about you, but to me this is one of the most genius ideas ever! This is vinyl lettering custom designed in Uppercase Living's Design suite. All you have to do is go here, register as a customer, go under the product tab and click on customize. This opens up the design suite, click on the second option down text and graphics. Once in there just click on the button add text type your phrase and then you can customize the size, color, and type of font you want.

Put me down

Here's to never "almost" falling in the toilet bowl again!

Now that we have that taken care of :) (thank goodness lol) Let's talk about another toilet issue, we love our men and boys but boy can they make a mess when they pee! I know they don't mean to but it seems like they just carelessly pee and I am left to clean it up. Don't get me wrong I am not a man hater by any stretch of the imagination. Most of the time though I am the one responsible for cleaning the toilet.

aim please

I over heard one day that if you give men something to aim at well they pee this greatly reducing back splash. Curious I did some research and I found a lot of evidence for this to be true. So I decided to put it to my own test! I cleaned up the toilet really good, drained the water out of my toilet bowl (as low as it would go) and I let it dry for an hour or so. Once it was dry I applied the vinyl expression "Thanks" inside of our toilet bowl.

toilet target

I have had this vinyl expression in my own toilet for over 2 months now and let me tell you cleaning the toilet is needed less often and isn't such a dirty job (still dirty just not as dirty). The vinyl is sticking to my toilet amazingly! If your interested in the Thanks for the inside of your toilet it is only available by emailing me. They are $5, and available only in the United States.
Now of course you don't have to use words you could also use fun animals like a frog!

Flush

This vinyl is also great if you have kids in the house, its a nice reminder not to forget to flush. It also looks so nice!

The Most Beautiful Heart

Heart

When I was in first grade my teacher shared a story with us that has stuck with me to this day. After hearing the story of the most beautiful heart I knew that is how I wanted to live my life.

The story starts with a man standing in the middle of his town showing off his perfect heart, not a flaw on it. As the crowd begins to grow an older man steps forward proclaiming that his heart is the most beautiful. The old man shows his heart and its full of scares, wholes, and jagged miss matched pieces.

Of course the man who's heart is perfect doesn't understand and laughs at the old mans claim of having the most beautiful heart. Until the old man explains his claim, the wholes in his heart are from when he shared a piece of his heart to someone, and the jagged pieces are from when someone gave him a piece of their heart. The old man lived a life full of love, and that is how I try and live my life.

love

After hearing the story how the old man's love can change someone so profoundly, I started living my life with an open heart. Love is what inspires me in everything I do. I personally feel my life is better off for it and I hope that my loving presence in other people's lives have made their life better. Weather I am still in their lives today or we were just a part of each others lives for a time.

Love makes life complete

Photo Prints

wedding photo

Uppercase Living photo prints are a great way to display your families pictures. I just love the way they stick right to your wall and you can even more them! The black and white wedding picture above the expression "Fill your heart with joy and your life with the sound of laughter" creates a beautiful way to display your love for each other.

photo print

They come with transfer tape, and a backing to protect the sticky backing of the photo prints. A great way to extend your dollar would be to make a collage of the pictures you want and order them as one larger photo print. This is what we did in the above picture. Then you just have to cut them apart before you put them up.

photo print

I like to tape them up before I stick them to the wall, that way I know I like the layout before I commit to the placing.

Photo Print

Once your happy with the layout stick them to the wall and admire you beautiful family display! I just love the look of this!

Another great thing with photo prints is you are not limited to square or rectangle pictures.

Your First Breathe Took Ours Away

Displaying our babies!

Let's face it, there isn't much, if anything, more important and dear to our hearts then our children. So it only makes sense that our walls be covered in pictures a memorials to them and all the achievements they've made. I myself have at least 30 pictures of my daughter up on our walls threw out the house, and she isn't even 2 yet!

Newborn Display

As a mother I hold this saying near and dear to my heart. It couldn't be more true! We never forget the moment our child is born, and we can never explain that most amazing feeling. I love this simple options to display with your newborn pictures of your children. Another great thing is its available in any 2 of over 50 colors to choose from. So this expression can be used for girls, boys, or even neutral!

Children Endless Love

Maybe you don't like the idea of have a lot of clocks on your wall that don't tell time :) but still like the concept of this idea. Not a problem these creative people figured it out!

time Changed forever

Time Changed forever

One said thing we have to remember is that our children don't stay little forever. This is probably the hardest thing for me as a parent, it feels like she was born yesterday and she's already talking! I adore this saying for displaying around all the children's pictures. Loved you yesterday, love you still, always have always will.

Love you always

My baby you'll be

Even though our children grow way to fast, no matter how much we tell them not to :), we will always see them as our little babies.
